The Scoop on Facebook's Changes

Facebook has launched some great new features and analytics that are impacting nonprofits. To help nonprofits navigate these opportunities on Facebook, Care2 held a terrific webinar this week entitled Keeping up with Facebook’s Changes  (and “Liking” it!) with Danielle Brigida of the National Wildlife Federation, consultant John Haydon, and Ashley Hansen, Director of Nonprofit Services for Care2

During the webinar the panelists discussed how nonprofits should be adapting and using Facebook’s new features. For example, Executive Directors of nonprofits could use the new Subscribe Button where members of their organization who aren’t their FB friends could subscribe to their public newsfeed. These types of connections could help members feels like they have deeper and more personal relationships with leadership at their favorite nonprofits while still having high profile staff maintain their privacy on Facebook.

On organizations Facebook pages, the new analytics such as “talking about this” which tracks numerous mentions of your page such as “Likes”, RSVPS to your events associated with your page, people liking updates, tagged photos, are very useful stats for nonprofits since it shows how engaged people are with your organization and brand on Facebook.

Is your organization looking for more "Likes"?

Care2 is offering a new Facebook "Likes" service for nonprofits for a low fixed cost per Like. Here's how it works. You tell Care2 how many "Likes" you want them to recruit for you -- all on a voluntary basis -- from among Care2's 17 million members, who take action every day to support causes and nonprofits. Then Care2 creates a contextual, email-driven campaign, sponsored by your nonprofit, to drive this quantity of Facebook "Likes" to you. The campaign usually reaches your goal in a couple of weeks, depending on how ambitious you are.
