LOLseals: Flickr API Contest Gets HSUS Over 3,000 Entries

lolseals Carie Lewis from HSUS tipped us to another clever Web 2.0 crowdsourcing contest by them that shows a great use of Flickr's API.

Carie and team used their Flickr Pro account (which your nonprofit can get for free here) and Flickr's API to create, in essence, a great lead-capturing tool that doubles as a cute baby seal photo gallery.

On the contest's landing page, HSUS provides photos of baby seals, asks people to caption them (think: LOLcats), and then via the Flickr API on their website, the entries are instantly submitted directly into their Flickr photostream

Within the submission form, HSUS collects personal information and email addresses that will be added to their list.  These names are being sent to GetActive automatically through the API.  No word yet on how many unique addresses they've added, but with over 3,000 entries, we'd imagine it's quite a few.

The contest runs until Friday, so if you want to submit your own LOLseal, visit the landing page here and view all of the submissions here.  We made the cute little guy in this post.
