Nonprofit Campaigners Take Center Stage at DCWeek

DC Digital Capital Week (DCWEEK) a 10 day festival in Washington, DC focused on technology, innovation and all things digital capital kicks of June 11th. There’s a terrific nonprofit track on June 16th with seasoned nonprofit campaigners ranging from Carie Lewis from the Humane Society of the United States to Alan Rosenblatt from Center for American Progress. There’s even a probono consulting lounge where nonprofits can ask experts for advice on every topic under the sun.

“DCWEEK is about technology, creativity, innovation and engagement, which goes well beyond just the technology sector. The DC-area community is filled with creative, passionate people who devote their time to non-profits," said Jen Consalvo, of Shiny Heart Ventures and one of the co-founder of the festival. “We have such a strong core track of speakers at Gov & Org 2.0 Day on Wednesday, I have no doubt that this will be one of the most interesting and informative days of the entire festival.”

If you’re in DC next week, check out some of my top panel picks for DCWeek.

When Failure and Criticism are Public

Event Page: View Full Details & Attendees
Venue: UMC Conference Facility
Address: 900 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington DC 20001
Time: 1:00PM to 2:00PM
About: Professional failure and criticism help to shape our success. As the adage goes: "Fail often & let thick skin repel harsh words." Sounds good! But in a world where careers are often made more public online, five DC entrepreneurs and bloggers talk-shop on their hard knocks, which ones hit (or not) the blogosphere -- and what came next.
Speakers: Panelists: Geoff Livingston, Zoetica Media, Allyson Kapin, Rad Campaign and Justin Thorp, Clearspring Technologies. Moderator: Jill Foster, Live Your Talk.

*Editors Note: I added this panel to my top picks because nonprofits struggle dealing with criticism publicly, especially in the blogosphere. This session should be helpful to nonprofit communications staff as well.
