Care2 Impact Prize -- Help Pick a Nonprofit Hero

The nonprofit community is filled with heroes. They fight for climate change and health care reform. They stand up to protect women’s rights and so much more.

To honor these heroes, Care2 is today unveiling a new annual award, the Care2 Impact Prize, to recognize individuals in the nonprofit sector who have made an outstanding impact on the field of online advocacy, online fundraising or both.

The winner will receive a cash award of $1,000, plus $1,000 to donate to their favorite charity.  The prize will be awarded on March 18th at the Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTC).

The 2011 Care2 Impact finalists are (drumroll please):

•    Darrell Hammond, CEO and Founder, KaBOOM!
•    Phil Aroneanu, U.S. Campaign Director, 350.org
•    Matt Flannery, Co-Founder and CEO, Kiva.org
•    Bill Strathmann, CEO, Network for Good, and Katya Andresen, COO, Network for Good (jointly nominated)
•    Madeline Stanionis, CEO and Founder, Watershed Company

Now it’s up to members of the NTEN community (that means you!) to cast your votes to help select the winner!

Deadline to vote is noon on Thursday, March 17th. You can also vote “in person” at the Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTC) “Science Fair” later on March 17th.

In addition to voting for your favorite finalist, please do two more things to help them to win:

1. Write a personal comment about why you think they should win the prize;

2. Share your vote and comments with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, and email).

Thanks also to the esteemed judges who nominated and winnowed down the list of potential prize winners. They included NTEN’s Holly Ross, Fenton Communications’ Heather Holdridge, Knight Foundation Consultant Vince Stehle, and Care2’s Clint O’Brien.

The judges considered four main criteria in picking these finalists.

1. Innovation. Has this person introduced valuable new ideas and approaches to the nonprofit sector?

2. Influence. Has this person’s work had a ripple effect to influence and benefit other professionals in the sector?

3. “Impact Delta.” Is there a quantifiably large difference between the “before” and the “after” of this person’s work – measurable in proportional fundraising dollars, or the quantity and quality of advocacy victories won, or the number of citizens participating in a cause?

4. Advancing The Cause. Did this person help accomplish anything that advanced their cause(s) meaningfully, such as via organizing or winning advocacy victories?

Thanks in advance to all of you who participate in the final voting process, to honor the heroes in our midst.

Vote today!

A final note. Care2’s goal in creating this new prize is to call attention to exceptional contributions by leading professionals to online advocacy and fundraising. We get to work with many of these pro’s because for 10 years we’ve helped nonprofits conduct online campaigns targeting our 15 million “do gooder” Care2 members, plus 90 million more people reached via our partner network of Huffington Post, Grist, Mother Jones, Democrats.com and about 100 others that promote our campaigns to their audiences. In this way Care2 helps organizations grow their activist base, recruit new donors and win important advocacy victories, all at the same time.

We are confident that the Care2 Impact Prize will shine a bright light on the achievements of excellent nonprofit professionals, and inspire today's up-and-coming leaders to make their mark on the sector, too.
