As political campaigns and nonprofits gear up for the election cycle, I thought I would share this infographic that attempts to map the politics of social media properties like Facebook and websites like Wikipedia. The data was determined through the analysis of thousands of people on Facebook and their “Likes”, political preferences, and polling data. Predictive modeling was then used to map the politics of the social web. While some of the data is certainly interesting and may give organizations a window into sites they can be using to cultivate and engage people who are Obama supporters, it’s important to note that the data is based on people’s profiles who opted into an app called TrendSetter (developed by Patrick Raffini, a strategist who works with conservative politicians and organizations).
