Mobile Data You Need to Know

Written by Allyson Kapin | 2012/4/25

The mobile market is experiencing some serious growth. As more and more nonprofits begin to test the waters with mobile, here’s some great stats for you to share with your team.

There are approximately 792 mobile apps downloaded per second.
While that’s an impressive statistic, be careful about getting sucked into shiny object syndrome. Before you run out and spend a lot of money building an app, consider what kind of app would truly serve the needs of your audiences. How is your app going to provide real value to your constituents and to the extent that they will want to continue use it daily or weekly?

Be sure and also talk to your audiences and get their input on what they would find valuable in an app. It’s important that we not build products in a bubble. One of my favorite quotes from Mal Warwick when he discusses guiding principles for fundraising is to tell donors what they want to know, not what you want them to know. That same principle should be applied to building apps too.
