Susan Sarandon has been a long-time activist and supporter of actions around stopping the Dakota Access Pipeline. When she devised a radical plan to force a reaction to the harassment and unfair practices taking place in North Dakota she need to create a movement…and quickly, as time was running out.

Susan Sarandon learned about Care2 through our work with Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, a 16 year old indigenous climate warrior and Youth Director for Earth Guardians who connected Susan’s team to Care2 hours before she was to go live on BBC to announce the campaign. Sarandon started a petition on Care2 asking signers to divest from the banks that are helping bankroll the pipeline, and effectively allowing the human rights violations that are occuring at Standing Rock. She even coined a hashtag…#BankExit!

Care2 drove over 37,000 petition signatures in under 48 hours and #BankExit was a trending topic on Twitter. To see how we did it, download the case study!
