Despite what your major was in college or what skills you’ve picked up along the way, today’s technology allows you to seem more tech-savvy than you may actually be. By downloading a few free apps, it’s easy to put together insightful infographics, schedule social media posts and send out mass emails easily for no cost.
It’s been a pretty tough year for communities across the nation. With the need for the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the killing of communities of color, the tragedy at Pulse in Orlando, and the passing of HB2 in North Carolina, lots of nonprofits have been stepping forward as a resource, a support center, or through advocacy.
Running the Women Startup Challenge and our social change web agency, Rad Campaign I get pitched a lot of different products. I recently discovered Spendrise, a platform for creating positive change everywhere you spend money. Here's how it works.
1. Start a Pledge
You support a Spendrise campaign by pledging to spend money if the business makes a positive change that you believe in. The change could be asking the business to go solar, to provide sick days to its employees, or any number of ideas! It's free to pledge, and your purchase only happens if the campaign succeeds.
2. Share the Pledge
The more people that pledge to spend to see the pledge implemented, the more likely a business agrees to make the change. Spread the word and see the pledges grow!
3. Pledge Fulfilled
The campaign creator brings all the pledges to the business to decide. If the business accepts, your pledge becomes a giftcard, and your dollars helped make real change! If not, no worries, your pledge expires and you keep your money.
Facebook recently rolled out its one-click donate button for nonprofits. You can sign up here to add it to your organizational FB page.
Here’s how the one-click donate button works once it’s integrated on your Facebook page.
When a donor clicks on the donate button they will get a popup with donation amounts (it's customizable by the nonprofit), and if the donors credit card is already stored in FB, they click one button to make the donation. There is also an opt-in for donors on FB to receive more info from the nonprofit.
